    The specialty was established in 1995. It obtained its master's degree gift in 2000, and is one of the key construction specialties of our school’s "985 Project". The specialty has made a series of fruitful researches on subjects such as the planning and project study of containerization in the Yangtze River valley, the construction and planning of International Shipping Centre of Shanghai, and the logistics plan of the area of the Changjiang Delta, during which it has achieved three scientific findings.

  The specialty owns the International Shipping Computer Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University. And there is a professor and three associate professors available in this department..

  The specialty is mainly engaged in the planning, decisional and managing theory of comprehensive transportation. Its main research fields are as follows, management of transportation logistics, technical and economic analysis of transportation system, and unified transportation planning. After graduation, master degree candidates of this specialty can be engaged in transportation planning and management or planning, studying and designing of logistics schemes. They are suitable for taking on some studying, managing and teaching jobs in governmental planning departments, administrative research departments of transportation and logistics, enterprises of transportation and logistics, or relevant institutions of higher learning.

  I. Training Objectives
  The degree winners should possess a solid theoretical foundation and systematical specialized knowledge, and know the international developing direction in the transportation planning and management field. They have certain ability in practical research and theoretical analysis, and can correlate relevant practical problems and make innovative research.

  3. Comprehensive transportation planning

  III. Length of Schooling and Credits
  The full-time Master degree candidates’ length of schooling is 2. 5 years. The total credits must get requested 32 credits at least; among them the credits of degree lessons must get requested 19. Semi-sabbatical master degree candidates’ period of schooling can be prolonged for another half a year or one year as approved.

  V. Middle Examinations
   Master degree candidates are supposed to have an all-round exam once a month in the fourth term to check whether their credits and grades in course study demands, by which to determine whether they can enter the stage of the academic dissertation. And after entering this stage, they should submit a brief summary of their half-a year work to their guide teacher by the end of each term, reporting the progress of the thesis within the range of the specialty.

  VI. Opening Report
  The opening report of engineering master degree candidates should be finished before the end of the third term (at the latest the fourth term after in months). The reading amount of documents is no less than fifty. At the last period of their opening report, they must have their oral defense at a public lecture participated by experts of the specialty or the relevant specialties.
