Strengthening of Steel Structures using Fibre Reinforced Polymers

Fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) has a high strength-to-weight ratio and good resistance to corrosion and environmental attack. FRP offers a great alternative for strengthening steel structures. This talk will present a wide range of applications of using FRP to strengthen bridges, buildings, crane structures and pipelines. It will highlight research into bond between steel and FRP, strengthening of steel members. Finally, it will discuss various types of steel bridges and the potential of using FRP to strengthen bridges under fatigue loading.

      赵晓林教授，澳大利亚工程院院士，现任香港理工大学土木及环境工程学系土木基础设施讲座教授，香港全球杰出教授。曾任澳大利亚蒙纳士大学土木工程系终身讲席教授及土木工程系系主任，澳大利亚新南威尔士大学工程部主管国际事务的副部长。获得的荣誉包括德国洪堡学者，日本学术振兴会特邀学者，英国皇家工程院特邀学者，瑞士国家科学院基金会访问教授，清华大学卓越访问教授，教育部长江讲座教授，国际焊接协会THOMAS奖章和Kurobane奖。作为国际管结构委员会主席，主持编写国际ISO规范两部、国际设计指南4本。主要研究领域为高性能可持续材料在土木工程中的应用、钢-混凝土-复合材料组合结构，浮体结构。已发表9本专著和400多篇SCI文章，指导了50多名博士生。

      赵晓林教授分别于1984和1987年在上海交通大学获得学士和硕士学位。
