¡¬Education¡¬Education Program ¡¬Design and Manufacture of Ship and Ocean Engineering Structure

¡¡¡¡This specialty is one of the earliest specialties that was authorized to coffer doctor¡¯s degree, and was appointed the state key specialty in 2002, subordinating to the first-grade specialty of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, which is eligible to offer doctor¡¯s degree of first-grade specialty and has post-doctor mobile stations. In the adjustment of academic disciplines, this specialty, with a history of half a century, absorbed in two state key specialties (Hydromechanics of Ship & Ocean Engineering and Structure Mechanics of Ship & Ocean Engineering), and formed the present size and structure.

¡¡¡¡This specialty presently has 1 academician of two academies, 13 doctor advisors, 2 Changjiang scholars£¬and 10 professors who serve at international authoritative academic organizations. It also owns a state key lab--Ocean Engineering lab, whose experimental conditions and achievements have reached the international level.
This specialty mainly deals with exploration of new types of ship and ocean structures. Its main research areas are: the solidity, fatigue, damnification£¬and stability of ship and ocean structures; Hydrodynamics of ship and ocean engineering; resistance, propulsion, yarage and weave-resistance of ship. And some of the research works have reached international level.

¡¡¡¡I. Education Goal
¡¡¡¡After graduation, students should possess solid theoretical knowledge and systematic specialized knowledge of hydromechanics, structure mechanics and ship & ocean engineering; know the developing directions of front specialties; proficiently master a foreign language; be able to engage in research works of ship and ocean engineering structural mechanics, hydromechanics, and ship & ocean structure design creatively; possess strong ability of independent work and management; be able to bring up important subjects and directions of front researches and have outstanding achievements in science or in special techniques.

¡¡¡¡7¡¢ Environment load, motion response and fluid & solid coupling research of ship and ocean engineering.
¡¡¡¡8¡¢Hydrokinetic functions research of ship and ocean engineering structures.

¡¡¡¡III¡¢Length of Schooling and Credits
¡¡¡¡The duration of full-time doctor¡¯s degree candidates is three years (altogether 17 or more credits). Semi-sabbatical doctorial graduates may prolong their schoolings by 1~2 years under permission.

¡¡¡¡Doctor¡¯s degree candidates will be given a comprehensive examination in the third semester, which will be carried out by the rules and process in Education Program Rules for Doctor¡¯s Degree Candidates in Shanghai Jiaotong University.

¡¡¡¡The opening report of doctor¡¯s degree candidates should be finished before the first half of the third semester. The amount of documents that be read is no less than fifty.
